Kila Kitu translates as 'everything' in Swahili, which is basically what you can fit into this cavernous basket!

Crafted from locally sourced sisal grass and leather, these baskets go through a surprisingly hands-on process before weaving even begins. The grass is carefully harvested and rolled by hand, then naturally dyed using traditional techniques. The lower half gets its rich tone from charcoal crushed into boiling water and heated over an open fire, while the darker upper section is coloured using soot collected from the chimneys of the weavers' homes.

Each bag is woven by a member of a thriving women’s weaving co-operative in the Greater Lower Eastern Region of Kenya, from locally sourced and sustainable materials. Each bag takes up to a week to complete – using methods woven through the generations, passed from grandmothers to mothers to granddaughters.

Measurements: Across top: 57cm, Height 34cm (with handle 46cm), width at bottom 30cm. Please note due to the handmade nature of these bags, dimensions may vary slightly.

Colours: beige/brown and a soft light grey/greige. Colours may vary slightly due to the natural dying process.

Please note these bags are made by hand from a natural material, so small and natural imperfections may occur - these are part of the bag's design.

Made in Kenya and sourced via The Basket Room (who's branding is on the leather tags on each bag), who are committed to empowering women in rural Africa while bringing consciously created products to modern living spaces and contemporary homes.
